Project Overview

Client: Entrepreneur who wanted to write a memoir about her life story and early hardships

Role: I was chosen to help her with this project. I interviewed her, took in depth notes, and transformed her verbal account into a book.

Goals:

• To share her story in a compelling way

• To use a train metaphor as the central imagery of the book align the story with this theme

• To incorporate a freeform poem at the start of each chapter that would coincide with the chapter’s theme

• To ensure I reflected personal accounts with honesty and candor that was true to the client

How I helped: I worked with the client to get this book completed on a short timeline. My main motivation was to ensure that the book accurately reflected her experience and mindset.

Project Requirements

In-depth Interview: Listened to client’s account of events to gain both the details of the story and to understand her language and tone so that I could incorporate all of this into the final product.

Completed Manuscript: Provided the document chapter by chapter, incorporating edits until the she was completely satisfied with the finished product

Website Rewrite: Rewrite web copy with a personal tone of voice that includes some direct language to emphasize important points. Write and design a new unique selling point (USP) on the website homepage. Format copy using a simple, smooth, interface design.

Scripted Chatbot: Convert Karl’s expert technical knowledge into plain language that can be used in a rule-based/scripted chatbot. Use a question and response design to guide customers in choosing the right mattress.
